Cheap and Quick Decorating Tips to
Boost the Value of your Home Find out how you can redecorate and
boost the value of your home
Everyone agrees that the housing market isn’t moving as
quickly as it was a couple of years ago. If you want to give your house a little sales boost as it prepares to
enter the market, you can stage your home for a quick sale by following these simple tips.
Walls and Floors
The two best investments you can make prior to listing a home are flooring and paint. A fresh coat of paint in a
fresh, neutral shade can boost a home’s attraction and price by quite a bit. Installing new carpet also gives
buyers an instant impression that the home is well-maintained and clean. Rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens can
also benefit from laminate, new vinyl, and wood flooring.
Window and Lighting Treatments
You can buy well-placed lamps and well-chosen window treatments to show your home off in its best light. Your home
will appear larger, cleaner and brighter with more light. Sconces can brighten up a dim hallway or foyer, while
boring windows can be dressed up with window treatments. Install outside lighting too, since many buyers check out
homes for sale during evenings.

Curbs and outdoors
Choose decorative planters and fresh flowers to decorate your front lawn. Avoid garish decorations such as
flamingos or gnomes. Install a new mailbox to heighten your home’s curb appeal and use a decorative address marker
to help buyers find your home easily.
Decorative accents, flowers, towels
This is an old rule of thumb: flower arrangements can give a house instant visual flair. You can put fresh or silk
flower arrangements around the foyer, kitchen, and bedside tables to give a visually compelling, spacious feel to
your home for the buyer. You can also buy new soft towels to add some style and flair to the bathroom. Fresh shower
curtains will also update your bathroom look. Wall art and area rugs can also enhance your home if well-chosen.
Slipcovers can also be bought to cover dingy living room furniture.
Garish colors or styles
Although color is often a subjective matter, red walls in the kitchen or bright pink carpeting might not be to the
buyers’ tastes. Select attractive neutral shades for permanent fixtures such as floors and walls. Limit bright
colors to art and linens. Also, be sure to eliminate any dirt or clutter in your home.
Personal Items
Although your family wall of photos is a great part of your home décor, when selling a home, it is best to
carefully pack personal memorabilia away. It is more difficult for buyers to project themselves into your home with
personal artwork, trophies, or knickknack collections lying around.
